Bovec in the Soca Valley is an ideal place for spending active holidays. Its river attracts many watersports enthusiasts, the mountains and nature attract those seeking adventure and tranquility in equal measures and the unique warm air current make the place a mecca for paragliders.

Situated between the Triglav National Park and the Italian border, Bovec is everything you could want from a mountain village with stunning surroundings and history to go with it. The area covers a territory stretching from Triglav, Slovenia’s highest peak, to the banks of the Soca, the most exquisite of Slovenia’s rivers. There are numerous walking opportunities to be had, where mighty mountain peaks weave together with sheep and goat pastures criss-crossed with trails, enchanting streams, rivers and waterfalls to make some amazing scenery.

You’ll be staying at the 3 star Hotel Kanin situated on the edge of town with a great view of Triglav and the Julian Alps. All rooms are enquite with cable tv. Breakfasts and evening meals are included. Hotel facilities include a bar, large swimming pool, sauna and fitness centre as well as a beauty parlour for those well deserved massages.
Activities.

Don’t expect the nightlife of some mountain towns. Bovec has a population of under 2,000. It’s traditional and quiet although there are still some bars, restaurants and even a nightclub within walking distance from the hotel.

The Soca Valley
With the river Soca its main feature, the Soca Valley is famed for its white water rafting, canoeing, kayaking and other water sports. Amongst the other numerous activities available are mountain biking, climbing, paragliding, horse riding, fishing and of course hiking. There are biking trails to suit all abilities, from easy to very demanding. There is also a small golf course and driving range. In addition to the varied and extensive activity programmes on offer, the award winning museum of WW1 at the nearby town of Kobarid is definitely worth a visit. A fantastic botanical garden in nearby Trenta has a superb range of flowers, some of which are unique to the region. During the high season, there are also occasional open-air concerts held in the village. If you get the chance its worth taking a tour to the Vršic Pass, the highest pass in Slovenia. 3 minutes from the pass is Ticarjev dom, a mountain hut and the only place you can get refreshments along the pass. Here you get a 360 degree panorama and if you look at the walls of Prisojnik for long enough you might be lucky to see an angel etched into it by nature (it really is there if you look carefully!).

Activities
The Soca Valley is a truly fantastic region for walking, with almost 100kms of trails, you will be spoilt for choice. There is something for all abilities, ranging from gentle paths along the river Soca to more challenging high altitude walks accessed by a scenic ride on the Kanin gondola (open every day in high season and 3 days a week during low season). The Bovec area is a land of a thousand possibilities for journeys on foot into the preserved nature of the Julian Alps. Many trails in the vicinity of Bovec, Srpenica, Log pod Mangrtom, Socva and Trenta are marked and maintained, offering the chance to enjoy the serenity of the Alpine forest as well as the numerous flowers and wildlife of this, most beautiful part of the Julian Alps. Mountainbiking here is also excellent with mountain paths above 1000m that date from WWI.

We defy you not to fall in love with this part of the World!
