The medieval lake-side town of Zell am See is one of Austria's most appealing winter and summer resorts. Its huge international popularity rests on its hard-to-beat setting on the shore of a beautiful lake at the foot of the 2,500-m Schmittenhöhe.
Schmittenhoe has 75km of runs equally split between beginner, intermediate and dvanced with welcoming mountain restaurants and bars wherever you look. And with only a one hour transfer from Salzburg you'll get ample time to ski on all four days.
You'll be staying at the brand new 4 star Hotel Max or 3 star Pension Andrea both situated a short walk away from the famous Zell lake and the many shops, bars and restaurants in the centre of town. All rooms come complete with en suite bathrooms and cable tv.
From the hotels you can walk to the City Express gondola that takes you straight up to the slopes or to the bus stop for the 5 minute ride to the ski school and nursery slopes.
Outside of skiing time, Zell is a great place to explore with a large leisure centre, health centre and ice rink right outside the hotel.
The nightlife is particularly good in ski season with a selection of classy bars such as Hangar B17 and Crazy Daisies as well as some more lively bars like Resis with live music and winter bar sports.
Schmittenhöhe is ideal for all levels of ability with a good selection of black and cross country runs leading down to the village and 2 nursery areas for absolute beginners.
The Kitzsteinhorn glacier is only a 25 minute free bus ride away where you can ski from 3,500 metres and experience some challenging moguls and off-piste areas.

Zell am See 'top ski destination'
Following the uncharacteristically cold winter last year, holidaymakers are banking on more of the same and booking their winter vacations slopeside ? especially at Zell am See in Austria.
Ski holiday bookings are up 20 per cent over last year, reports the Irish Sunday Business Times, and Austria and Zell am See are the top spot for holidays, according to Crystal Holidays.
The slopes at Zell am See have already received over 60 cm of snow this season and people are getting excited about the coming ski season. Ray Scully, managing director of European products told the newspaper: "Last year, we would have been 80 per cent full at this stage, but we are well over 90 per cent booked now." Beyond the typical alpine exploration, Zell am See is also renowned for its spas.
With a town as picturesque as a Christmas card, also officially designated as a climatic spa, it's no wonder why Zell am See is fast becoming the quintessential winter wonderland.
