About Flaine
Flaine is not as well known to Brits as Val D'Isere or the 3 valleys. However the skiing, while not as extensive as the 3 valleys, is 'almost a match for Val D'Isere/Tignes', according to skiers bible, 'Where to ski and snowboard 2007'. And that's not all, the guide adds, 'Big, varied area, with plenty of terrain to suit everyone, reliable snow, compact, convenient, mainly car-free village, scenic setting and glorious views.
Flaine's architecture was recently featured in the Observer in an article entitled High Style in the Alps. 'Flaine, though, designed by Marcel Breuer, remains gloriously intact and gives a fascinating glimpse of 1960s futurism. The whole resort is built of concrete and looks more like a space station than an alpine village, while sculptures by Picasso and Dubuffet adorn the ski school meeting area.
