This is a walk through White Peak countryside in the Derbyshire Dales, with a stretch of riverside path beside the Dove, famed for its fishing and dramatic scenery. We also visit the quaint little village of Hartington with its chocolate box pretty cottages, tea rooms and old cheese factory which still produces the fabulous Hartington Stilton.
Our walk starts at the former Hartington Station on the Tissington Trail, which is located a mile or so from the village. We walk for a short distance along the trail before heading off along quiet country lanes and ancient tracks to Dale End where we begin the gentle descent of Biggin Dale to meet up with the river Dove in Wolfscote Dale and the caves, rocks and fern encrusted dell of Beresford Dale. There now follows a scenic riverside path where we can observe dippers, ducks and slitherbanks, crossing over narrow footbridges as we jump between Staffordshire and Derbyshire en route to Hartington
