| Welsh students scale university building |
Tuesday 15 May 2007 |
A group of students from Cardiff University has scaled down the wall of one of their campus buildings, the Gair Rhydd Weekly reports.
Luckily, the plucky youngsters were all members of the University's Mountaineering Club, and knew exactly what they were doing!
Their strenuous efforts to abseil down the psychology building were not an elaborate attempt to escape from lectures, but were instead a fund-raising exercise for CHEKA (Care, Health and Education for Kids in Africa), a registered charity set up by a former Cardiff Psychology student.
All in all 23 plucky students made their way down the building - all wearing fancy dress costumes - and raised approximately £2,400.
Joe Hobson, vice-president of the Mountaineering Club, told the student paper: "It's good to show that the University clubs can use their skills and resources to raise money and awareness for important causes both home and abroad."
Rock climbing is certainly not an activity for the faint-hearted! However, if you are willing to give this exhilarating activity a go, but can't quite make it to the mountains, have a go on the indoor climbing wall at the Swiss Cottage Sports Centre - the next best thing to being in the great outdoors!
Get your heart racing with one of our activity days.
