| Walking promoted in Richmond |
Thursday 24 May 2007 |
Children in the borough of Richmond are being encouraged to walk to school as part of a nationwide campaign.
Walk to School Week begins runs from May 21st to May 25th, and the pupils of nearly 80 schools and nurseries are being urged to take part by Richmond-upon-Thames Council's safety education team, the Richmond and Twickenham Times reports.
Richmond-upon-Thames councillor David Trigg said: "We are very keen to promote walking to school and I am delighted so many of the borough's schools have pledged their support.
"It's not only good for fitness but will also help make the borough a cleaner, greener and safer place by reducing congestion and the traffic around school entrances.
"By encouraging young people to walk more often, we can improve their safety, health and the environment."
Another great way to get around in this lovely part of London is to hop on a bike and cycle. The borough is home to Richmond Park, the largest open space in the capital, which is a great place to enjoy some fresh air and exercise.
Get your heart racing with one of our activity days.
