| Punting in Cambridge 3rd best activity in Britain |
Thursday 10 May 2007 |
Messing about on the river in Cambridge has been ranked the third most enjoyable travel experience on offer in the country.
Punting on the Cam was number three on the Rough Guide's Top 25 Britain and Ireland Travel Experiences, with the Edinburgh Festival and walking the Pembrokeshire Coast Path in Wales polling first and second places respectively.
Other notable entries include wandering Borrowdale in the Lake District at number five, surfing in Newquay, Cornwall at number nine, hiking in Snowdonia, Wales at number 11 and clubbing in London at number 16.
Mark Ellingham, founder of the travel book company, said: "When we think of holidays, a lot of people immediately associate this to going abroad.
"But, believe it or not, you don't actually need to jump on a plane to have an amazing time."
It is relatively unsurprising that punting up the Cam should feature so highly on the list. A visit to the historic city of Cambridge just wouldn't be complete without a visit to one of the charming boathouses and hiring a punt.
The Granta Boat Yard, situated next to the Granta Riverside Pub on the banks of the beautiful river, offers a beautiful and relaxing atmosphere for this fun-filled activity.
Get your heart racing with one of our activity days.
