| Polish conductor wins contest at Prague spring festival |
Monday 21 May 2007 |
An international conducting contest held at the prestigious Prague Spring music festival has been won by Polish conductor Krzysztof Urbanski.
The results of the contest were announced last night (May 13th) and revealed that Marzene Diakun, also from Poland, came second while Koji Kawamoto from Japan came third, the Prague Daily Monitor reports.
An international collection of 30 conductors took part n the competition, which has been part of the Prague Spring festival for 60 years.
The festival is a glorious celebration of classical music, and a trio of finalists from the young conducting contest performed with the Czech Radio Symphonic Orchestra at a concert yesterday evening in Prague's Rudolfinum.
A special mention was given to the two Czech competitors, Ondrej Vrabec and Jan Kucera, although they failed to reach the finals.
The conducting contest was part of the 59th Prague Spring International Music Competition, which is held annually in the popular eastern European city.
Music is just one of the many attractions the delightful city break location of Prague has to offer in the spring, along with a plethora of historic and cultural sights, charming eateries and a bustling nightlife.
Take time out with a city break.
