| Outside lessons in the Lake District |

A group of 24 schoolchildren from the Lake District has enjoyed lessons in the great outdoors as part of a new scheme to promote awareness of the restoration of the area.
Pupils aged ten and 11 from Braithwaite School, near Keswick, were taught maths, art, literacy and science by their teachers in Whinlatter Forest.
The outdoor classroom was part of a new initiative launched by Bassenthwaite Reflections, a programme which is tackling the restoration of Bassenthwaite Lake, to encourage awareness of the programme's work.
Backed by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Reflections will be running many similar education projects during the next three years.
Reflections' education project officer Amanda Hancock commented: "This was a great way not just to show conservation in action, but to encourage our young environmentalists to take a proactive part in protecting their surroundings.
"Years five and six spent time identifying trees and removed protective covers from birch, planted 20 years ago, which are now playing a part in putting out root systems to protect soil from erosion."
The Lake District is an extremely popular tourist destination, thanks to its beautiful scenery and the multitude of activities on offer in the area.
