| Manchester celebrates winners of tourism awards |
Friday 04 May 2007 |
An award ceremony to celebrate the achievements of the best tourist facilities and attractions in Manchester was held in the city last night (Thursday).
Organised by Marketing Manchester, the Manchester Tourism Awards were held at The Hilton Hotel in Deansgate and were hosted by Radio One DJ Sara Cox, the Manchester Evening News reports.
Readers of the paper voted The Manchester Craft and Design Centre the winner of the Manchester Recommends Award, which is an accolade for the city's best tourist destination.
Over 400 guests attended the event and Andrew Stokes, chief executive of Marketing Manchester, commented: "Tonight's awards are a way of recognising quality and a celebration of outstanding contribution to tourism across the region."
Manchester is certainly a city which offers a lot to tourists, with its vibrant atmosphere and its plethora of shops, restaurants, bars and clubs, not to mention its great sporting facilities.
The northern municipality is a fantastic destination for a tennis weekend, with the De Vere Whites hotel one of the best places for enthusiasts of the sport to reside while in the city.
