| Lake District hotel and caravan park win tourism 'Oscars' |
Wednesday 02 May 2007 |
A hotel and a caravan park in the Lake District have scooped awards at the travel industry's equivalent to the Oscars.
They received their accolades as part of the Enjoy England Awards for Excellence 2007, organised by national tourism agency VisitBritain, lakelandtoday.co.uk reports.
The Low Wood Hotel on the shores of Lake Windermere won the prestigious silver award in the Business Tourism category. The hotel has 110 bedrooms and features high quality banqueting and conference facilities.
Simon Berry from English Lakes Hotels said: "We're delighted to have won this important award. All of our staff have put in a tremendous effort over the last few years to ensure that English Lakes Hotels provides a first class service to all our business clients."
Skelwith Fold Caravan Park in Ambleside, Cumbria, was the Caravan Holiday Park of the Year gold winner. Situated in the Lake District National Park, the park is home to a wide range of wildlife and boasts views of the Langdale Pikes.
Henry Wild, manager of Skelwith Fold, said: "I hope we have shown at Skelwith that tourism and sustainability can be perfect partners and that, what's good for business can be just as beneficial to wildlife and the countryside."
