| City breaks booming in Europe |
Thursday 26 April 2007 |
City tourism is the fastest growing area of the European economy, thanks to the increasing popularity of city breaks.
Research by European Cities Marketing (ECM) has found that the cities of Berlin, Barcelona and Prague have all benefited from an increase of 550,000 in overnight stays annually since 2000, helped by easier access and strong marketing campaigns.
Other areas which have seen a surge in popularity in overnight stays include Dubrovnik in Croatia, up 130 per cent, Turin in Italy up 50 per cent and Valencia in Spain up 60 per cent.
As a result of the huge growth in the European city break market, Reed Travel Exhibitions will be hosting its second City Break exhibition, an event which allows tourism specialists the chance to gather and discuss the industry.
Mark Walsh, exhibition director of City Break, said: "We have had a fantastic response from suppliers with a number of key city tourist boards already signed up to exhibit, including London, Brussels, Vienna and Dublin, as well as a huge variety of private sector companies including city hotels, attractions and destination management companies from over 80 European cities."
Take time out with a city break.
