| British tourism increasingly popular |
Friday 27 April 2007 |
The recent run of warm weather has increased the popularity of short breaks in Britain and in the run up to St George's Day, this shows no sign of slowing.
According to research from VisitBritain, the national tourism agency, 27 per cent of English people will be celebrating their national day on April 23rd, with 70 per cent believing it should be a national holiday.
If it were made a national holiday, two-thirds of respondents to the survey said they would be inclined to spend it with friends and family.
Mike Bedingfield, VisitBritain marketing director, says: "We've had a fantastic start to the holiday season with a particularly glorious Easter and the signs are good for another pleasant weekend ahead of St George's Day.
"If even a fraction of us choose to enjoy a day or a weekend away from home with our family and friends, we can help confirm England as the place to be seen on holiday this year."
There are various locations around that country that are great places to visit for a holiday, including the delightful Brecon Beacons in Wales, the Lake District and the Peak District.
