| Baggage handling fees opposed by most Brits |
Thursday 10 May 2007 |
Paying to check in luggage is opposed by a large proportion of British travellers, a new survey has revealed.
A report by the consumer watchdog Which? shows that 75 per cent of air passengers from the UK are disgruntled by having to pay luggage handling fees when the jet off for a break.
Moreover, 50 per cent of respondents to the survey said that they would be "put off" by an airline that imposed extra charges for an additional item of luggage.
James Fremantle from the Air Transport Users Council told Which?: "Most passengers accept that these charges are inevitable and justified in return for a lower fare.
"The major complaint we get from passengers is that they don't know about the charges."
The findings come on the back of research by the Air Transport Users Council which found that British Airways (BA) lost 1,047,750 bags in 2006, which equates to one piece of luggage for every 43 people boarding a plane.
