The walk starts at the Burrington Inn, Burrington, North Somerset, near to the Rock of Ages, a well known landmark. From there it goes up a narrow wooded valley, passing a number of caves. It then continues on up to the highest point of the Mendips, Beacon Batch, where, on a clear day, you get superb views towards the Cotswolds to the north, the sea to the west and the Quantocks to the south. From there it descends to the Longwood Nature Reserve, a wooded area, where there are more caves and local feature known as a swallet, where a stream forms a pool and disappears underground. It returns to the Burrington Inn across farm land and open heathland, passing some relics of world-war 2 on the way. The total length is about 8 miles, and as you can see there is a lot of interest on the way.
