Aside from being one of the best and most beautiful islands in Europe, Majorca has a lot more to see and explore. From Monastries and churches to castles and cathedrals. Mountain villages, caves, Palma Old Town, restaurants, bars and of course beaches.

The peaceful village of Santa Ponsa is on the West coast of Majorca about 15 minutes drive from Palma airport. As well as soaking up the sun and the sea we've lined up a range of activities to keep you occupied as well as plenty of free time for you to laze around on the beach. Activities included in our packages include mountain biking, hiking, kayaking and snorkelling.

You'll be staying at the 3 star Hotel Pionero just a hundred yards from the beach. Just a few minutes walk from the hotel is the centre of Santa Ponsa with some very lively bars and clubs. All hotel rooms are equipped with air conditioning, satellite television, en suite bathrooms, large balconies and a feast of facilities at hand such as two outdoor pools, tennis and volleyball courts, billiards and archery. The adjacent beach area then caters for every watersports activity such as water skiing, set skiing, paragliding and diving.

Santa Ponsa is just a short taxi or bus ride from the glamorous, lively town of Palma. This historical town offers a vibrant city experience with the advantage of a seafront, an old town and an excellent mix of shops, culture and gastronomy.

What you can do on this holiday

Mountain biking
Beginning in Santa Ponsa you’ll soon realise that there is more to this island than beaches and pools. This journey takes you through two very different sectors: The first part goes through a woodland National Park along an off-road track parallel to a stream, sometimes crossing it, and sometimes even through it. Its flora and fauna, and the water exploitations give the countryside a characteristic shape that can be found throughout the island. The second sector starts at the village of Es Capdellà where you'll follow the old cart path that used to join this village with the Finca of Galatzó - an old olive oil pressing house. From here the journey continues on soil and asphalt, until we reach Paguera and back to Sta. Ponsa.
Itinerary: Sta Ponsa - Son Pillo - Pas de sa Mula - Ses Algorfes - Son Claret - Finca des Galatzó - Es Capdellà - La Vall Verd - Peguera - Costa de la Calma - Sta. Ponsa.
Duration: 3.5 h
Distance: 32 km
The ride is classed as easy to intermediate. You do need to be relatively fit and be able to ride a bike. The land can be quite hilly, but nothing too steep. However, if you are finding it difficult you can choose to stop at the end of section 1 at Es Capdellà and enjoy coffees while waiting for the rest of the group as section 2 ends here for lunch.

Hiking
This excursion takes us through the inhabited zones of Sóller, Biniaraix and Fornalutx. You' notice soon after leaving the old town of Sóller and entering the mountains a wonderful view of lemon trees. The local buildings have great character and this is a World away from the beaches and resort life! The valley of Sóller is really something else compared to the rest of the island, due to its abrupt landscape and character of their people. Fornalutzx has an intersting and curious history and was recently voted the most picturesque village in Spain. We'll stop in a traditional Finca for lunch (included in package price).
Itinerary: Sóller – Biniaraix – Camí de Monnàber – Fornalutx – Sóller.
Duration: 3h ½
Distance: 8 km.
This walk begins on easy flat land around the picturesque Sóller. However, as you leave the suburbs you will start to ascend slowly over a couple of hundred metres. We recommend that you bring some fruit or energy bars (there is a shop near the hotel) and lots of water. You will be rewarded with the most wonderful views and hospitality at the end of the walk.

Kayak/Snorkelling
This takes place near to the hotel. It is essential that you can swim if taking part.

Freetime
We urge you to enjoy the island in your free time. There are some lovely places away from the resort which are worth seeing. Few tourists venture away from the comfort of the pool/beach but if you do you’ll get more from this trip.

Be sure to get a map from the hotel or even better a guide book with map from the book shop/tobacconist at the end of the street. The North West part of the Island that you are staying at is great for walking and cycling. In fact a bike lane runs all the way from Peguerra just West of Santa Ponsa all the way to Palma.

Here are some of our previous customer recommendations:

Walk to Calvia – Calvia is a small and beautiful village a couple of miles from Santa Ponsa. You can follow the route of the first part of the bike ride through the national park. As you come out of the woodland, Calvia is clearly signposted along quaint country roads passing olive trees and farmland. From Calvia you can walk back or alternatively it's very easy to catch a taxi from one of the local cafes. Check with Elko or the tourist office when market day is!

Bike/Bus to Andrade – The most scenic route is via Es Candela and over two smallish mountains. So there’s quite a bit of uphill but the roads are nice with lots of flat hairpins to catch your breath. The rewarding downhill is a ride through traditional Majorcan scenery. Then carry on a few kilometres to Puerto de Andrade. Here you’ll see a stunning harbour full of terrace bars and restaurants. Its one of the nicest places to chill and people watch. You can follow the coastline from Santa Ponsa for an alternative route home.

Bike/Bus to Camp de Mar – Majorca is full of beach resorts but few like this. This is a cute resort that has lovely beach bars and a less British feel to it. Most of the people here are either Spanish or independent travellers or even celebrities. Claudia Schaffer, Tom Cruise and Michael Schumacher all own property near here.
