The Kitzsteinhorn glacier, in the Austrian Alps, is a popular resort for skiers from around the world. Rising to 3,203m (10,560 feet), the mountain peak provides all year round skiing and one of the widest selections of high altitude pistes in Austria. So you can rest assured you’ll have great ski conditions and guaranteed snow! The glacier is suitable for all levels of skier. Beginners can join our programme of lessons when booking an event.
Kaprun is a beautiful village at the foot of the glacier just one hours transfer from Salzburg. The 3 star Hotel Waidmannsheil is slap bang in the centre of town less than one minute from the main strip of bars and restaurants and five minutes from the popular Baum bar and club.
A regular free skibus runs from outside the hotel taking ten minutes to the foot of the glacier. A short gondola ride takes you up the first two levels: Langwied (2000m) and the Alpine Centre (2500m). from the Alpine Centre you have a choice of lifts and runs including a cable car that takes you to the top of the glacier.
If the snow is as good as the last two years, there might even be a chance to ski the neighbouring Schmittenhohe overlooking the beautiful Lake Zell.
Skiing is guaranteed and Kaprun has proved a perfect SpeedBreaks early snow resort for the last couple of years.
Additional Night at hotel
We can offer an additional night at the hotel on the night of Friday 24th November. This means you can take any flight from Salzburg on the Friday and be wide awake and ready for the weekend's skiing.
We cannot offer a transfer if booking the additional night. Transfers from Salzburg airport are very easy with a shuttle bus that is roughly timed to coincide with the Ryanair flights. Or a fast train from Salzburg to Zell am See followed by a quick taxi or bus ride. The shuttle bus takes approximately 1 hour 40 minutes and costs approx 20 euros e/w or 30 euros return - more details here.
If wishing to take the train you need to take an airport bus to the train station (easier than it sounds and airport information will point you in the right direction). All the bus stops are on the main road behind the car park as soon as you exit the airport. Trains are hourly at 4 minutes past the hour and cost 18 euros each way. They take you as far as Zell am See (ten minutes from Kaprun). From Zell you need to take a cab from outside the station for around 18 euros or walk into the town and to the bus station where you can take a bus for 2 euros. More info here |
