In winter, skiers and snowboarders flock to Banff to experience the three world-class ski resorts of Norquay, Sunshine Village and Lake Louise Mountain Resort. These three ski areas, all within Banff National Park, provide more than 7,700 acres of terrain and 240 trails.

Situated in the rocky Mountains in the Canadian province of Alberta, Banff has one of the best snow records in the West with regular snowfall between November and May ensuring there's always guaranteed skiing.

You'll be staying at the Banff Inn on the main Banff Avenue. Its a lodge style hotel newly built with great mountain views. The Banff Inn is a ten minute walk from the town centre and offers spacious rooms all with cable tv, coffee makers, hairdryers, free wi-fi and queen size beds. The hotel also contains a sauna, steam room and whirlpool as well as a smoke-free bar. Accommodation is bed and breakfast.

The skiing areas of Banff, unlike many European resorts, are accessed by car or bus. Luckily the bus stops right outside the hotel and is inexpensive (free on the tri-area ski pass). The three areas comprise:

Norquay
Norquay is 15 minutes from the hotel. There are 28 runs for all levels and advanced skiers can test their mettle on several steep and challenging mogul runs, Upper Lone Pine and Gun Run being two of the best. Night skiing is sometimes available on Fridays.

Lake Louise
Lake Louise is Canada's largest single ski area and offers over 139 runs (one of them is 5 miles!) across a varied terrain. The snow record here is unrivalled backed up by Canada's largest snow making system.

Sunshine Village
Sunshine Village is 20 minutes from Banff by bus and then only 13 minutes up to the 3,300 acres of skiing by the World's fastest gondola! There are over 107 runs aimed primarily at intermediate to advanced skiers.
